Role of Natural Polysaccharide for The Enhancement of Solubility of Poorly Soluble Drug

Abstract


The aim of the work was to evaluate the effect of carrageenan on the solubility of poorly soluble drug Gliclazide. Solid dispersions were prepared using naturally obtained polysaccharide carrageenan in the molecular ratio of 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3 using trituration and solvent evaporation method. The prepared solid dispersions were evaluated for the % drug content and % drug release etc. The solid dispersions were also subjected to the DSC and FTIR analysis for checking their purity. The obtained data confirmed the enhancement of the solubility of Gliclazide by carrageenan.
